Along the Lek it is wonderful to travel for miles over winding dikes. You will find rugged nature reserves, historic sights and refreshing peace and quiet.
Rugged river nature
You will soon cross the Lek to Vianen on a ferry: nice and old skool! On the Lekdijk you drive past bird-rich nature reserves such as the Everdingerwaard and the Goilberdingerwaard. Here you will see hay meadows, reed collars, swamp forest and hawthorn hedges. In short: a wonderfully varied, rugged river nature.
Schalkwijk Castle
From Culemborg you cross the Lek again with a ferry. You pass Werk aan de Groeneweg, a fort that was built at the beginning of the First World War. Just below Schalkwijk you will pass a former medieval castle that was demolished at the end of the eighteenth century. Now there is a walking park with a garden complex. Tull and't Waal is a remarkably charming village. You will see, among other things, the village church from 1778.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
