From the Volendam harbour you can take a lovely walk. You walk for kilometres along the dike along the Markermeer, through Edam and through the polder.
Fortress Edam
On the way to Edam you walk past the Zuidpoldermolen, a thatched polder mill from 1670. The old city centre of Edam is located within a former fortress. Due to the beautiful buildings, the cityscape is protected. From the former city walls you have a beautiful view of the beautiful harbour. Further on you walk over the Ringdijk along the Purmerringvaart. In this vast landscape you can enjoy a refreshing peace.
Port of Volendam
The harbour of Volendam has a pleasant atmosphere. You will also find beautiful buildings, such as the Stolpkerk from 1658. If you pay close attention, you will also see a simple wooden belfry with a wedding bell from 1771. Hotel Spaander dates from 1881: guests such as Emperor Wilhelm II, Elisabeth Taylor and Muhammad Ali slept here. The building of the Cooperative Fish Auction St. Vincentius is a monument from 1934.
