Every Dutch person has heard of Volendam. But have you seen it with your own eyes? You will find many sights there. It is also wonderful to cycle around this village.
Purmerbos
From the Volendam harbor you will soon pass the Fort at Edam, one of the forts from the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Cycling along the dike, the bird-rich polder is on the left, and on the right you look out over the Markermeer. Wow! In Oosthuizen you can admire the village church from 1518. Further on you pass the unfinished Fort at Kwadijk: the access road and fort keeper's house still exist. On the edge of Purmerend you drive past the Purmerbos, a striking green zone in this polder country.
Port of Volendam
At the port of Volendam you will find a wonderfully characteristic atmosphere. Especially because of the beautiful buildings here. Such as the Stolpkerk from 1658. It is the oldest and best preserved bell-shaped church. If you pay close attention, you will also see a simple wooden bell tower with a wedding bell from 1771 in the harbor. The route ends here at Volendam Marken Express. You can book a crossing to Marken here.
