Description
It is wonderful to make miles in the Gelderse Vallei. You will find a varied landscape of wide grasslands and small-scale nature reserves. Just past Putten you drive through the woods of the Veluwe: a must, of course!
Historic Nijkerk
Nijkerk is the first on your route. In this charming old town you will find a few sights, such as the beautiful Grote Kerk (also known as Sint-Catharinakerk) from 1540. Further on you drive through the Kruishaarsche Heide, a beautiful nature reserve where wild gale and juniper also grow between the conifers and heathland .
Sprielderbos
From Putten you drive into the Sprielderbos, one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands. And most beautiful! You drive here for a large part on cycle paths where there are no cars to be seen. Now that's enjoying nature! Take a look at the striking village church in Voorthuizen, which dates from the fifteenth century. At Landgoed Appel you cycle through a beautiful old bocage landscape with characteristic farms. You really feel like you have stepped back in time here. Delicious!
