Description
In the Gelderse Vallei it is wonderful to make kilometers. You will find a varied landscape of wide grasslands and small-scale nature reserves. Just past Putten you drive through the forests of the Veluwe: a must, of course!
Historical Nijkerk
First on your route is Nijkerk. In this charming old town you will find several sights, such as the beautiful Grote Kerk (also called St. Catherine's Church) from 1540. Further on you drive through the Kruishaarsche Heide, a beautiful nature reserve where wild bog myrtle and juniper also grow between the conifers and heather.
Sprielderbos
From Putten you cycle into the Sprielderbos, one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands. And the most beautiful! You cycle here for a large part on cycle paths where there is no car to be seen. That is really enjoying nature! In Voorthuizen, take a look at the striking village church, it dates from the fifteenth century. On Landgoed Appel you cycle through a beautiful old coulisse landscape with characteristic farms. You really feel like you are back in time here. Wonderful!
