Through the border forests near Swalmen

From the Maasdorpje Beesel you can take a beautiful varied cycle tour. You drive through the Maas Valley and the quiet forests just across the German border at Swalmen.

Swalmdal
You'll soon be cycling along the Maas, it's wonderful to rack up the miles here. On the shore you pass the Grauwe Beer, a flour mill that stood in Zaandam from 1614 to 1891. Further on you will pass through two damp nature reserves. You drive through the moist alder and poplar forest of the Beesels Broek, after which the forests of the Swalmdal await you further on.

German nature
You climb a bit into the Elmpter Wald. Further on you will pass the Elmpter Schwalmbruch, a beautiful nature reserve where, in addition to forests, you will also find extensive heathland. In the Brachter Wald you will experience a unique cycling experience: there is no motorized traffic in this former ammunition depot! After you cross the border again, you come to junction 99 through Ronkenstein. This hamlet enjoys a protected village view because of its eighteenth-century appearance.
