Tour of the Old Tramway near Poppel

Your route starts at 't Jachthuis Tulderheyde. The Roovertsche Heide is nicknamed the "Estate of the Poor." A charitable foundation once purchased this area as a job creation project, but this plan never materialized. The path winds through the fragrant conifers. You walk through the woods, on both sides of a straight lane, with occasional views across the fields. This straight lane is the Oude Trambaan (Old Tramway): this is the former route of the steam tram line to Poppel. You also cross a section of the heathland, making for a lovely, varied walk! Brabants Landschap is preserving an inland dune here, allowing the rare "drifting sand heath" nature type to develop. A small, isolated area of heathland is now also connected to the rest of the heathland.
