If you stay in Lelystad, you will of course also visit the Bataviawerf. Here you can enjoy the Dutch shipping history for hours. Afterwards you drive along the beach and through the Piston Plasbos.
Batavia wharf
The Bataviawerf is definitely worth a visit. Here you can admire a replica of the Batavia, the famous seventeenth-century ship. The Seven Provinces is also being recreated here. At the wharf you will also learn more about the historic wooden shipbuilding industry. Just outside the wharf you pass through Batavia Stad, the first fashion outlet (2001) in the Netherlands. The shopping center is an imitation of a fortified city and forms a nice whole with the Batavia wharf.
Piston plasbos
You will also pass the Houtrib locks, an impressive lock complex from 1975. From the beach you can look out over the Houtribdijk, the flood defense from 1976 that separates the IJsselmeer from the Markermeer. Further on you drive through the Piston Plasbos, a park-like landscape where flowery lawns, shrubs and many types of trees alternate.
