Coevorden, Drenthe, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 554499
Provided by: Groots Genieten
The route starts at Coevorden Castle. A place with history, because the first castle was already here around 1025. The current national monument is a beautiful place to start the day with breakfast or coffee. The historical centre of Coevorden is also worth seeing. You cycle a few kilometres through the polder landscape around Emlichheim. It is wonderfully quiet cycling here. Schoonebeek is one of the oldest development villages in Drenthe, it was founded in the thirteenth century. In 1943, the second largest oil field on the mainland of Western Europe was found here. In the centre of Schoonebeek there is still an old-fashioned nodding donkey as a reminder. In Westerse Bos you can see several eighteenth-century farms.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
