Tour of the fortified town of Coevorden

The route starts at H Design Hotels Kasteel Coevorden. A place with history, because the first castle was already here around 1025. The current national monument is a nice place to start the day with breakfast or coffee. The historic center of Coevorden is also worth a visit. You drive a few kilometers through the polder landscape around Emlichheim. It is wonderfully quiet cycling here. Schoonebeek is one of the oldest mining villages in Drenthe, it was founded in the thirteenth century. In 1943, the second largest oil field on mainland Western Europe was found here. There is still an old-fashioned yes-man in the center of Schoonebeek as a reminder. In Western Bos you will see some eighteenth-century farms.
