Views over the Oosterschelde and Westerschelde

On Zuid-Beveland you can easily cycle from the Oosterschelde to the Western Scheldt. And from Zeeland to Brabant. With this route you can do both. And enjoy beautiful views and sights.

Markiezaatsmeer
You cross the Scheldt-Rhine Canal, the waterway completed in 1975 that partly lies on the border between Zeeland and North Brabant. Cycling through the polders near Woensdrecht you will experience wonderful tranquility. Just past junction 32 you look out over the Markiezaatsmeer, the largest wetland in the Netherlands after the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. On the shore you look out over swamp, reeds and willow forest. Many birds live on the water, about 125 species breed there every year.

Centuries-old mill
It is also wonderful to travel for miles in the polder in Zuid-Beveland. You see many fruit orchards here. You also have beautiful views over the Oosterschelde and Westerschelde. Just before Waarde you pass De Hoed, a flour mill that was originally built in Ghent in 1550. It has been at its current location since 1991. In Waarde itself you can admire the centuries-old village church.
