Tourist tour in your own country

Sometimes it's fun to play tourist in your own country and take in the typical attractions. Your route starts at Hotel Old Dutch - Restaurant Le Pompadour. You immediately get on the ferry to Marken: actually more of a boat trip, because it takes about half an hour. Along the way you can enjoy beautiful views of the Gouwzee and the Markermeer. The boat is the best way to arrive at Marken, which was a real island until 1957. In the Middle Ages, the island was inhabited by monks from Friesland, but it grew into a fishing village with wharves and characteristic wooden houses on stilts. You cycle back via the dike connection to the mainland, past the lovely Broek in Waterland and Monnickendam.
