You'll depart from Ophemert, near the Waal River. The river area is a wonderful cycling region. You can enjoy the fresh air on the banks and the river views. Along the route, you'll see several beautiful old buildings and windmills, such as the De Bol windmill from 1867. At Varik, you'll cross the Waal by ferry – a truly holiday feeling!

The Waal
This beautiful watery route takes you close to the banks of the Waal River, perfect for a summer day. This mighty river, like the Nederrijn (Nederrijn), is a branch of the Rhine, but the Waal carries by far the most water. That's why you'll see many large ships here. Another fun fact: Tiel, which you'll cycle through towards the end of the route, was founded as early as 850-1100. It's one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands!
