Put on your walking shoes and come and enjoy a day at the Amstelmeer. Enjoy the views, the peace and the cozy harbors.
Marina
The Haukes was once a mooring place for the ferry that completed the connection Schagen-Wieringen. A mail boat also moored here at the time, a reminder that you can see in the name of a café at the marina. A little later you walk over the dike along the Amstelmeer. This water (then still called Amsteldiep) once formed a transition between the Wadden Sea and the Zuiderzee. Now you no longer see VOC ships there, but surfers.
Amsteldiepdijk
From the harbour of Ewijcksluis you walk up the Amsteldiepdijk. This dike was built in 1924 and connected the former island of Wieringen to the mainland. The construction of the Amsteldiepdijk was not without problems: the nature reserve De Verzakking, which lies to the right of the dike, was created by the sliding away of dike soil. The Amsteldiepdijk proved to be an important training ground for the engineers who later built the Afsluitdijk. The route ends at Camping Waddenzee, a wonderfully quiet place to stay overnight.
