Along the German border and the Zwillbrocker Venn

Let the border be your guide and tour the German border area past a beautiful Baroque church, the rugged nature around the Zwillbrocker Venn and the town of Winterswijk. A real voyage of discovery! Your route starts at Oldschool Hotel. From Winterswijk you cycle to the hamlet of Zwilbroek. The border cuts the village in half, which is called Zwillbrock on the German side. This was one of the German mission posts on the border, when Dutch Catholics were not allowed to hold masses in their own country. The St. Francis Church from 1720 is the best preserved Baroque church in Munsterland. When you cycle through the rugged Zwillbrocker Venn nature reserve, you leave the scenic landscape behind you. It is a remnant of a large raised bog area that once extended far into the Achterhoek.
