Cycling across the heathland never gets boring. The views are always wonderful and when the heathland blooms, it becomes even more beautiful. With this route you will discover not only heathland but also the Celtic fields of the Wekeromse Zand: variety galore!
Celtic fields
This route first takes you to the Wekeromse Zand, one of the last places in North-West Europe where you can still find actively drifting sand. It is a historical area: at the Vijfsprong, which you cycle past, you will see reconstructions of so-called Celtic fields: centuries-old fields of 40 by 40 meters. You will also find a reconstructed farm and storage barn from the Iron Age. A viewing platform offers a beautiful view of the entire complex.
Heather
Through the beautiful green of the Veluwe you cycle to the nice town of Otterlo, at the western entrance of National Park de Hoge Veluwe. From here you cycle along forests and heathland to nature reserve Planken Wambuis where you see even more heathland. In August, when the heather blooms purple, this route is at its most beautiful.
