Enjoy cycling across the heath

Cycling across the heath is never boring. The views are always wonderful and when the heather blooms, it becomes even more beautiful. With this route you will discover not only the heathland, but also the Celtic fields of the Wekeromse Zand: variety is an asset!

Celtic fields
This route first leads you to the Wekeromse Zand, one of the last places in Northwest Europe where you can still find actively drifting sand. It is a historic area: at the Vijfsprong, where you cycle past, you will see reconstructions of so-called Celtic fields: ancient fields measuring 40 by 40 meters. You will also find a reconstructed farm and storehouse from the Iron Age. A viewing platform offers a beautiful view of the entire complex.

Heather
You cycle through the beautiful greenery of the Veluwe to the nice town of Otterlo, at the western entrance of the Hoge Veluwe National Park. From here you cycle past forests and heathland to the Planken Wambuis nature reserve where you will see even more heathlands. This route is at its most beautiful in August, when the heather blooms purple.
