A grand tour around Emmen that leads you past special discoveries. From ancient green villages to peat colonies, with a few beautiful free-standing bicycle paths as an encore!
Valtherbos
Today's starting point is Garden Terrace Restaurant De Gaffel, where you can sit outside. If it's chilly, you can warm yourself by the fireplace in the Saxon farmhouse, which was built around 1700. The route immediately starts well: you immediately dive into the Valtherbos. This forest was only planted a century ago, but there is a lot of history to be found: dolmens, burial mounds and a hiding place.
Brink
You make a wide circle around Emmen, past many beautiful old villages. At the Brink in Sleen you can see the impressive monumental town hall from 1938. Via a few beautiful lakes, such as the recreational lake the Grote Rietplas, you arrive at the reclamation villages east of Emmen. Beautiful, free-standing cycle paths lead you from Klazienaveen along the water and through the forest back to your starting point. Would you like another cup of coffee?
