Forest walk through the Boekender and Heldense forests

A wonderful walk through the woods and the small-scale arable lands on the foothills. A varied area where many special birds can be found.

Boekenderbos
Baarlo is a real castle village and your route starts at one of them: Fletcher Château de Raay. From here you immediately dive into the Boekenderbos, which consists largely of higher-lying coniferous forests that were created in the nineteenth century to retain the shifting sand. Around the coniferous forest you will find smaller forests and farmland, a favorite habitat for birds such as the partridge and the oriole. You will also find streams: remnants of old Meuse beds.

Heroic Forests
The Heldense Bossen consist of several contiguous pine forests. You will not only find forest here, but also a mosaic of small-scale arable land, fens and small heaths. A beautiful walking area. You can fully enjoy the silence here. You can walk straight into Helden from the woods. Here you will find Brasserie De Zoes, where you can enjoy a nice meal or drink. They are known here for their extensive range of beers, maybe a tip!
