Forest walk through the Boekender and Heldense forests

A lovely walk through the woods and small-scale farmlands on the foothills. A varied area where many special birds can be found.

Boekenderbos From here you immediately dive into the Boekenderbos, which largely consists of higher coniferous forests that were planted in the nineteenth century to retain the drifting sand. Around the coniferous forest you will find smaller forests and agricultural land, a favourite habitat for birds such as the partridge and the golden oriole. You will also find streams there: remnants of old Meuse beds.

Heldense Bossen The Heldense Bossen consist of several contiguous pine forests. You will not only find forest here, but also a mosaic of small-scale arable land, fens and small heathlands. A beautiful walking area. You can fully enjoy the silence here. From the forests you can walk straight into Helden. Here you will find Brasserie De Zoes, where you can have a nice meal or drink. They are known here for their extensive range of beers, perhaps a tip!
