Zierikzee is a cozy and beautiful town. A good opportunity to put on your walking shoes for a beautiful walk.
Monument City
Zierikzee enjoys a protected cityscape for good reason. There are no fewer than 568 monuments, so take time for this city walk to experience the unique historical atmosphere. The city obtained its wealth not only through fishing, but also through trade and industry. Already in the Middle Ages it was a large walled city with six gates. The Zuidhavenpoort is one of them: it served to protect the southern harbor entrance.
Old Port
Further on you are in one of the most beautiful places in the city: the Old Port. Here you see some beautiful old ships in the Museumhaven Zeeland. Then you will pass Zierikzee's most famous building, the Sint-Lievensmonstertoren from 1506. The tower was actually supposed to be the highest in the country, but this was canceled due to a lack of money.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
