A beautiful watery route, along the Oosterschelde and the Zuid-Beveland Canal. Along the way you will discover the beautiful historic fishing village of Yerseke.
Yerseke and Oosterschelde
This route first leads you through beautiful Yerseke. Here you will see the historic oyster pits, where you can taste the oysters and see how oysters are farmed. The fishing village is best known for the mussels and oysters that are caught in the Oosterschelde, now a national park. You can see thousands of shorebirds along the coast from your bicycle. Nature is given plenty of space here again, so that the birds benefit from the wet and salty landscape.
Zuid-Beveland Canal
On the Oosterschelde you have a wide view of the water while cycling. You continue to follow the water inland, along the Zuid-Beveland Canal. It cuts Zuid Beveland in half at its narrowest part and connects the Oosterschelde with the Western Scheldt. This canal, built in 1866, was once busy with traffic, but now you can enjoy the peace and quiet.
