A route full of variety. Discover the Camp Westerbork Remembrance Center, extensive forests, beautiful villages and old heathlands. The Heart of Drenthe makes your heart beat faster!
Westerbork
You soon cycle past the Holtherzand, one of the few (and most beautiful) remaining heathlands in this area. In the village of Westerbork you will find the fifteenth-century Stephen's Church. The village is best known for the Camp Westerbork Remembrance Center, which you will find further along your route. The former camp site is now a green plain, the old commander's house is one of the few remaining buildings.
Watchtower
The Heart of Drenthe consists of approximately 5,000 hectares of nature. Wherever you cycle: it is wonderfully quiet everywhere. And the deeper you go into the forest, the more everyday life seems to disappear behind you. Just before Hooghalen you cycle through extensive forests of the connected Grolloo forestry, Hooghalen forestry and Schoonloo forestry. At junction 58 there is a fourteen-metre high lookout tower: this way you can really see how far the forests extend here!
