Pannenhoef Tour: Lokkerven and Padvindersven

Your route starts at De Menmoerhoeve. Not far from here lies the Lokker fen. According to legend, on a misty evening you could see candles above the water, which would lure you into the fen. The fen is part of the Pannenhoef, a nature reserve that centuries ago looked like the Peel in the east of Brabant. From the fourteenth to the seventeenth century, peat was extracted here in abundance. In dried form (peat), everything was transported to Breda and Roosendaal via peat canals as fuel for households and breweries. Now there is a beautiful nature reserve of forest, fens and flowery meadows. Rare plants such as heather moorland and marsh stag's-tail grow along the fens. The Padvindersven is also perfect for skating in the winter!
