Tour of Pannenhoef: Lokkerven and Padvindersven

Your route starts at De Menmoerhoeve. Not far from here is the Lokker fen. According to legend, on a misty evening you might see stalk candles above the water, luring you into the fen. The fen is part of the Pannenhoef, a nature reserve that looked like the Peel in the east of Brabant centuries ago. Plenty of peat was extracted here from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century. Everything was transported in dried form (peat) via peat barges to Breda and Roosendaal as fuel for households and breweries. Now there is a beautiful nature reserve of forests, fens and flowery meadows. Rare plants such as heather scallops and marsh deer hay grow along the fens. The Boy Scoutsven is also perfect for skating in the winter!
