Tour of Pannenhoef: Lokkerven and Padvindersven

Your route starts at De Menmoerhoeve. Not far from here is the Ven de Lokker. Legend has it that on a foggy evening you could see stable candles above the water, luring you into the fen. The fen is part of the Pannenhoef, a nature reserve that looked like the Peel in the east of Brabant centuries ago. Peat was extracted here from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century. In dried form (peat), everything was transported to Breda and Roosendaal via peat barges as fuel for households and breweries. Now there is a beautiful nature reserve of woods, fens and flowery meadows. Rare plants such as heather cartel leaf and marsh deer hay grow along the fens. The Padvindersven is also perfect for skating in the winter!
