On this long-distance route you can see with your own eyes how the Ems changes from a narrow river into a powerful large river on its way to the North Sea. The Emsradweg takes you along both banks of this river, but also through historic towns and breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. Get on your bike quickly and hit the road!
Five beautiful regions in one route
The starting point of this route is in the middle of the Moosheide nature reserve near the town of Hövelhof. At this place at the foot of the Teutoburg Forest you will find the source of the river Ems. From here you cycle successively through the Paderborner Land, the Gütersloher Land, the Münsterland, the Emsland and Ostfriesland. In this way, the Ems connects no less than five beautiful regions, each of which has its own unique character. You cycle through the historic cities of Rheda-Wiedenbrück and Rietberg, but also through numerous small towns.
Special sights
Near the town of Leer, you can take a look at Evenburg Castle, a water lock that dates back to the 17th century. The castle was built by a Dutch colonel as accommodation for his wife.
