The Emsland Route is a long bike ride through the Emsland. While cycling you will get to know the gem of this region: the river Ems and the beautiful landscapes that surround it. This route hardly rises and is therefore suitable for both novice and more experienced cyclists. Enjoying the natural beauty is no problem at all in the Emsland.
On the road on quiet roads
The start and end point of this route is in Meppen. From here you cycle along the course of the Ems into an open nature reserve. Enjoy the tranquility of quiet back roads and find your way between green meadows, dikes, a piece of canal, mills, old cultural landscapes and historic buildings such as Clemensweerth Castle in Sögel. Your thoughts are only interrupted in the quiet nature reserves by the sound of birdsong and otherwise it is wonderfully quiet. The perfect opportunity to clear your head and enjoy everything you see around you.
Bustling cities and villages
In between all this natural beauty, you will get to know various places such as Lathen, Papenburg, Börger, Sögel, Rheine and Lingen. Lingen is the largest city in the Emsland. In the middle of the nature reserves you will find this city full of hidden corners, art and historical sights such as the town hall from 1555.
For shipping enthusiasts
In Papenburg, take a look at Meyer Werft Papenburg and immerse yourself in the world of shipping for a while. You can admire ship models and an example cabin here. From the visitors' gallery you can look over the shoulders of the employees at the yard and you will also receive more information about the yard and shipping to the North Sea on the Ems.
