Zierikzee
With more than 500 national monuments, Zierikzee has a lot to offer. The Fat Tower (officially the Sint Lievens Monstertoren) stands out from afar. It should have been much higher, but for a climb this is high enough. The beautiful golden Neptune waves his trident on the tower of the former town hall. The tower is richly decorated, while the town hall is a beautiful example of austere Renaissance architecture. The Flemish gables feature the medallions of Emperor Charles V and his son Philip II.
Brewers harbour
The town hall of Brouwershaven is a wonderful example of the Flemish Renaissance. The oldest part, the rear, dates back to the 15th century.
For a narrow city, Brouwershaven has an imposing church, the Grote or Sint Nicolaaskerk. The original church from 1325 has been renovated and expanded for centuries. The result is impressive, as you can now see for yourself.
Renesse
The Gothic Jacobus church dates from the 16th century. The main altar was dedicated to James the Greater, Saint of Santiago de Compostella. The James Church is included in the almanac of this popular pilgrimage.
Burg-Haamsteede
The stone donjon (tower) of Slot Haamstede dates from the 13th century and survived a major fire in 1525. The castle has been rebuilt while retaining the keep.
Mill de Graanhalm dates from 1847 and is one of the most beautiful and best maintained flour mills in Zeeland. When there is enough wind, the mill grinds grain. You can taste the quality in the pancake restaurant at the mill.
The watchtower in the Boswachterij Westerschouwen is a nice point to round off the tour. You have a beautiful view of the sea, dunes and land.
