Mensinge estate and the Leekstermeer

The route starts at Hotel Eetcafé Zalencentrum Onder de Linden, where you can start with a cup of coffee and book an overnight stay for the next day. The Brink of Roden is a real must-see. Here you will see, among other things, the Winsinghhof at number 10, a farm from 1672.
Around the Leekstermeer, the largest lake in Drenthe, you drive through rugged low-peat areas in the valley between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils: the Onlanden. Nearby you will find the esdorp of Peize. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries the village was known for hop cultivation. The hops were mainly purchased by brewers from nearby Groningen. In cozy Eelde you make a stopover at Café Theater G & A Boelens, take a seat on the large terrace before cycling back to Roden.
