Mensinge estate and the Leekstermeer

The route starts at Hotel Eetcafé Zalencentrum Onder de Linden, where you can start with a cup of coffee and book an overnight stay for the next day. The Brink van Roden is a real must-see. Here you can see, among other things, the Winsinghhof at number 10, a farm from 1672.
Around the Leekstermeer, the largest lake in Drenthe, you cycle through rugged lowland peat areas in the valley between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils: the Onlanden. Nearby you will find the esdorp Peize. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries the village was known for its hop cultivation. The hops were mainly purchased by brewers from nearby Groningen. In the cozy Eelde you make a stop at Café Theater G & A Boelens, take a seat on the large terrace before you cycle back to Roden.
