Oude Niedorp, North Holland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 546992
Provided by: Groots Genieten
It is wonderfully peaceful to cycle in the polders around Heerhugowaard. From winding dikes you look out over canals and vast meadows. There are also some old villages and sights on the route, such as the Broeker Veiling.
In Oude Niedorp you will pass the De Hoop mill and one of the three church ruins that still exist in the Netherlands. Most of the church burned down in 1977. In Broek op Langedijk you cycle past the monumental wooden auction building from 1912. The first auction in the Netherlands for horticultural products was held here.
Mills and a museum
From Heerhugowaard you set course for Oude Niedorp. Just past Heerhugowaard you cycle over the dike along the Schermervaart. From a distance you can see three beautiful ironing mills appearing on the horizon. Two date from 1631. Along the way you will pass the Grandmother's Time and Motor Museum. Here you can view the engines of various vehicles and you will also find all kinds of nice objects from grandmother's time. You can also take a look at the Dutch Kremlin in Winkel, just a stone's throw from this museum.
