Walking through North Holland estates

Just below Velsen in North Holland lies a number of contiguous old country estates. This route takes you over the Beeckestijn estate and the Velserbeek estate.

House Velserbeek
It is wonderful to walk through the forests and fields. In the middle of nature you will pass two stone gate pillars from the eighteenth century. This monument once belonged to the former Hoogergeest Estate. Further on is the monumental Lievendaal farm. Huis Velserbeek is originally a sixteenth-century farmstead. The stately park was redesigned in the late thirties of the last century by the famous garden architect Leonard Springer. You will feel like you are back in time here.

Beeckestijn Estate
Beeckestijn Estate is one of the few summer residences of wealthy Amsterdam regents that have been preserved in its entirety. The former owners came to their country estate by boat across the then Wijkermeer. The current country estate originated from a seventeenth-century farmstead. The lush, publicly accessible eighteenth-century garden is a feast for the eyes. And unique for the Netherlands, because you can see two styles (French Baroque and English landscape style) side by side!
