Walking across North Holland estates

Just below Velsen in North Holland there are a number of connected old country estates. This route takes you across the Beeckestijn Estate and the Velserbeek Estate.

House Velserbeek
It is wonderful to walk through the woods and fields. In the middle of nature you pass two stone fence pillars from the eighteenth century. This monument once belonged to the former Hoogergeest Estate. Further on is the monumental Lievendaal farm. Huis Velserbeek is originally a sixteenth-century homestead. The stately park was redesigned in the late 1930s by the famous landscape architect Leonard Springer. You feel like you're back in time here.

Beeckestijn estate
The Beeckestijn estate is one of the few completely preserved summer residences of wealthy Amsterdam regents. The former owners came to their home by boat across the then Wijkermeer. The current country estate emerged from a seventeenth-century homestead. The lush, publicly accessible eighteenth-century garden is a feast for the eyes. And unique for the Netherlands, because you see two style forms (French Baroque and English landscape style) next to each other!
