It is wonderfully peaceful to walk on the Beeckestijn Estate in North Holland. You feel like a gentleman or lady of rank here. You will see some sights in the charming village of Driehuis.
Country estate Beeckestijn
Beeckestijn estate is one of the few completely preserved summer residences of wealthy Amsterdam regents. The former owners came to their home by boat across the then Wijkermeer. The current country estate emerged from a seventeenth-century homestead. The lush backyard, probably the first landscape garden in the Netherlands, is a feast for the eyes with its winding paths, flowering shrubs, water features, flower fan and romantic structures.
Threehouse
Driehuis is a quiet village, ideal for a stroll through. You will pass the Sint Engelmundus Church. The current building dates from 1894, it replaced a centuries-old farm church. Further on you pass a white eighteenth-century farmhouse with green-white-red shutters. The white reception building of Westerveld Cemetery on Driehuizerkerkweg is a monument: it was designed by the famous architect Dudok.
