Country estate Beeckestijn
Buitenplaats Beeckestijn is one of the few completely preserved summer residences of wealthy Amsterdam regents. The former owners came out by boat across the then Wijkermeer. The current country estate originated from a seventeenth-century homestead. The lush backyard, probably the first landscape garden in the Netherlands, is a feast for the eyes with its winding paths, flowering shrubs, water features, fan of flowers and romantic structures.
Driehuis is a quiet village, ideal for a stroll through. You pass the Sint Engelmunduskerk. The current building dates from 1894, it replaced a centuries-old farm church. Further on you pass a white eighteenth-century farmhouse with green-white-red shutters. The white reception building of Westerveld Cemetery on Driehuizerkerkweg is a monument: it was designed by the well-known architect Dudok.
