Description

Between nodes 99 and 08 is the White Kei. Here the three municipalities of Baarle-Hertog, Merksplas and Hoogstraten come together. After a recent reparcelling
the Flemish Land Agency ensured that this memorable border point was crowned with a modern monument and the Witte Kei is back in its place. Thanks to a small relocation of the Witte Keiweg, now clearly visible and more accessible to everyone. The White Kei probably owes its name to a
border marker from the 13th century. This boundary marker is associated with the demarcation of the borders of Merksplas, which was established in 1251. It
The border point where Wortel, Merksplas and Baarle-Hertog came together was a major point of discussion. It is not clear how old the name White Kei is or where it comes from exactly. It is certain that at the beginning of the 19th century this three-border point was already the White Kei
was named.
