De Stippelberg nature reserve is a beautiful destination for your walking day. Pines and heath, an estate with rhododendrons and not to forget an extensive natural pond: variety is an asset.
Dots
The Stippelberg is named after the many sand hills that appear as dots in the landscape. The heathland once dominated here, but now mainly pine trees grow here. From the end of the 19th century, Douglas fir and Japanese larch were planted here for mining. The dead wood may be left here to attract insects, mushrooms and mosses, which attract other animals. Open spaces are created to give native trees a chance to germinate.
Estate
In the eastern part the soil is much wetter: deciduous trees and flowery shrubs such as rhododendrons also grow here. This area is reminiscent of an estate, complete with a country house and stately avenues. If you pay close attention you might be able to spot woodpeckers or deer.
