In the footsteps of Sean Connery

This walking route offers you a surprising amount of variety. In the middle of the Veluwe you walk through three landscape types: the Speulderbos, the agricultural area around Speuld and the Houtdorperveld where the airborne landings for the film'A Bridge Too Far\\\' (1977) were filmed.

Houtdorperveld
The Houtdorperveld is one of the largest heaths in the Netherlands. You have beautiful panoramas. In some places the horizon seems to be tens of kilometers away. You walk a bit on the route of the old church path between Speuld and Uddel. In addition to old, there are well-known footprints on this heath. This is how Sean Connery walked here during the recordings for'A Bridge Too Far\\'. Just before you end the moorland, you will pass an area with four burial mounds on your right.

Speulderbos
Around Speuld you walk between the fields and meadows. You will see some characteristic old farms. A little later you dive into the Speulderbos, one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands. It is wonderful to walk here between the deciduous and coniferous trees. What peace you experience here, in the middle of the Veluwe. Under the beeches you can find traces of boars in the autumn.
