Cycling through Amersfoort

The beautiful historic Amersfoort can be explored perfectly from the saddle. In the Gelderse Vallei you will find many natural beauties and sights, such as the Grebbelinie.

Stoutenburg Estate
Just outside Amersfoort you drive through De Schammer, a rugged landscape of flowery meadows, marshland, waving reeds and bubbling streams. This is how the entire Gelderse Vallei once looked. In the coach house on the historic Stoutenburg Estate you can learn more about this. Just below Leusden you drive along the Valleikanaal for a while. Here lies the Grebbelinie, a unique piece of Dutch cultural history. Further on you drive through the forests of the Den Treek Estate.

Imperial city Amersfoort
Besides being cozy, Amersfoort is also rich in history. In the many monuments, streets and canals you can see the medieval history of the city. The famous Amersfoortse Kei, a boulder, can be found on the corner of the Stadsring and the Arnhemsestraat. The fifteenth-century Monnikendam is a beautiful monument. The Heiligenbergerbeek flows into the city center under this water gate.
