Through the woods near Someren-Heide

There are several beautiful nature reserves around the Brabant mining village of Someren-Heide. This route takes you through the Somerense Heide, De Pan and the Weerterbos.

The pan
You drive through the rectangular forest plots and newly constructed heathlands of the Somerense Heide. The silence in this area is extremely refreshing on your mind. From the saddle you will soon have a beautiful view over the Strabrechtse Heide. In the middle of the De Pan forest you will pass a former farm and inn from 1831. A monument has been placed near the farm in memory of the crew of an English bomber that crashed in 1943.

Weerterbos
The Weerterbos is one of the few truly old forests in this region. This nature reserve consists of a beautiful mix of moist and dry forests, grassland plots and small heathlands. In the middle of the forest you will pass a lookout tower. From the top you have a chance to spot red deer. A little further on you will pass a beautiful monument: a reminder of the border church that stood here from 1650 to 1712. On the edge of the Weerterbos you can go to Huyskamer Daatjeshoeve to take a rest. With new energy you cycle further, towards Nederweert. You cycle through the fields to Someren-Heide.
