In the border area between Limburg and North Brabant it is almost old-fashioned quiet. Come experience it yourself with this beautiful walking route through the De Pan nature reserve.
The pan
The first part through De Pan leads you through a dry coniferous forest with fifty-year-old pines. It is wonderfully peaceful to walk here. Ideal to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind you. And catch up with friends and family. Kempen heath sheep graze on the heath, so that the grass and young trees disappear between the heath plants. In the middle of the forest is Hoef aan de Pan, a former farm and inn from 1831.
Someren-Heide
The mining village of Someren-Heide was once located on the border between Staats-Brabant and the Spanish Upper Gelre. Transit duties had to be paid at the border marker that once stood at the edge of the forest. With their invasion in 1794, the French ended this toll place. The original border marker was moved to Someren in 1899 in honor of the accession to the throne of Queen Wilhelmina. In 1995, the originally four-meter-high pole was brought back to Someren-Heide. You can admire it on the Kerkendijk.
