Description

This cycle route takes you from Strand49.nl Camping and Glamping to the Schoorlse Duinen. You will pass Petten, which was rebuilt for the fourth time after the Second World War. The village was first destroyed in 1421, during the infamous St. Elisabeth's Flood. Further on you cycle through Mennonietenbuurt, a settlement founded by Mennonites in the eighteenth century. In Burgervlotbrug you can see one of the five remaining raft bridges in the Netherlands. The Schoorlse Duinen are one of the most beautiful dune areas in Europe. You can enjoy fragrant coniferous forests and rolling heaths. In June and July, the many thousands of pine orchids form a white carpet. A photogenic area. From Schoorldam you drive over the world-famous West Frisian Omringdijk. On your left are the vast Zijpe and Haze polders with their beautiful old windmills and characteristic farms.
