FORTtreffelijk route: Walking along the Markerpolder

You cross the canal, from the dike you can see the Wormer and Jisperveld on your right. This is the largest contiguous peat meadow area in Western Europe, with hundreds of meadows and narrow ditches. It is wonderfully quiet walking here, you only hear the wind and the song of the meadow birds. Spijkerboor is located at a junction of waterways: a special place. You continue walking along the Markerpolder. This polder was created in its current form in 1637: a historic landscape!
