Cycling through Dutch fortified towns

Weesp and Naarden are two picturesque fortified towns, well worth a visit. The route also takes you through Muiderberg and through the Vecht region where you visit Nigtevecht.

Fortress Naarden
Naarden is a gem: it is one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe. You can easily soak up the historic atmosphere in this cozy town. You will find, among other things, the Sint-Vituskerk: the fifteenth-century tower is the oldest part of this building. The striking Town Hall dates from 1601 and is a fine example of the Dutch Renaissance style. The Libra Museum is housed in a medieval building.

Picturesque Weesp
Nigtevecht is one of the gems along the Vecht. Because of the many beautiful monumental buildings, the Dorpsstraat enjoys a protected village view. You can see, among other things, the village church from 1300. Cycling along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal you have beautiful views over the polders. With no less than 200 national monuments and a protected cityscape, it also pays to switch back in Weesp. Just like the monumental Brink in Muiderberg, where you will be warmly welcomed in the seventeenth-century former courthouse of Hotel Restaurant Het Rechthuis.
