Would you also like to walk through a forest that is no less than four meters below sea level? Then walk this route through the Hollandse Hout, a nature reserve of about 900 hectares near Lelystad. You also walk through the beautiful Lelystad-Haven.
Zuiderzee
It remains a crazy idea, while you step through the Hollandse Hout: you walk through a forest where the turbulent Zuiderzee flowed less than a century ago. The Hollandse Hout is one of the few deciduous forests in the Netherlands. You mainly walk under poplars here, although willows, alders, oaks and beeches also grow there. However old the trees sometimes seem, they were only planted in the 1970s after the reclamation of Flevoland.
Work Island Lelystad
The port of Lelystad is located on the former work island that was used for the construction of Lelystad and Eastern Flevoland. Wooden barracks were built to house the new residents. After a few years, the barracks were replaced by stone houses: this is the oldest residential complex in Lelystad. The route ends in the former main building of this complex.
