A round of Oostvaardersplassen

This route takes you along the rugged nature of Flevoland: the Oostvaardersplassen. You also drive a bit through one of the Netherlands' newest cities: the strikingly decorated Almere.

Oostvaardersplassen
From the Oostvaardersdijk you have beautiful views over the water of the IJsselmeer, but also over the Oostvaardersplassen. Thousands of years ago, our whole country looked like this. Now the area with its reeds, water, rough grass plains and wild animals is unique for all of Europe. Visit the outdoor center for more information and various excursions. With a bit of luck you might see the white-tailed eagle in the distance, which has been breeding in the Oostvaardersplassen since 2006.

Characteristic Almere
In Almere you drive through neighborhoods with striking street names. The green Muziekwijk is all about composers and concepts from music, you can also see original street signs in the Filmwijk and Stripheldenbuurt. You also drive along the Lage Vaart, a 46 kilometer long canal that crosses Flevoland. The nature-rich Eilandenbuurt is located on the water and stands out for its wide variety of special architecture.
