Alkmaar is easy to explore on foot. With this city walk you will taste the historical atmosphere in the cozy city center. And get to know the district Oudorp, a former village.
Historical Alkmaar
The medieval centre of Alkmaar is not considered a protected cityscape for nothing. Here you will find a series of canals, old courtyards and centuries-old houses. In a word: beautiful! You walk a bit along the Kennemersingel where the Molen van Piet is located, a corn mill from 1769 that was built on the Clarissenbolwerk. On the other side of the water you can see the Sint-Josephkerk from 1909. You also pass through the Fnidsen, a beautiful old shopping street with many monumental buildings.
Old village
In Oudorp you can also admire a few sights, such as the striking White Church from 1858 on the Herenweg. A little further on you will pass the St. Laurentius Church from 1880. You walk into the meadows of the Oudorperhout, the remains of a once larger agricultural area. On the Hoornse Vaart you will pass four monumental ironing mills from 1630.
