A nice loop around Spijkenisse

Spijkenisse is an excellent base for a beautiful bike ride across Voorne-Putten. Here, you can cover many kilometers along busy or gently rippling waterways. In the polders, you can enjoy the abundant natural beauty.

Brielse Maasdijk
You drive for miles along the quiet Brielse Maasdijk, a dam used to close off the Brielse Maas. It is an ideal way to get acquainted with the versatility of this water-rich area. To the left, you have many views of Voorne-Putten; to the right, you look out over the waters of the Hartelkanaal and the harbor area. The Hartelkering, completed in 1997 and one of the more recent components of the Delta Works, lies in the Hartelkanaal.

Last tram track
Beyond picturesque Zwartewaal, the wonderfully peaceful landscape of Voorne-Putten awaits you. You drive through a mix of meadows, dikes, ditches, and small nature reserves. From junction 85, you drive a short distance along the former tram line between Spijkenisse and Hellevoetsluis. This line was the last Dutch regional tram to be discontinued in 1966.
