Description
When you think of enjoying Limburg, you almost automatically envision hills and half-timbered houses. Yet North Limburg also has a lot of beautiful things to offer. You can discover it with this route around Horst.
Medieval churches
After you cross the Maas on a ferry, you will immediately see a few beautiful monumental buildings in Broekhuizen: the eighteenth-century Brouwershuis on the Veerweg and the St. Nicholas Church from 1500. You will also pass beautiful medieval churches in Broekhuizenvorst and Swolgen. Further on you drive a bit through the Schadijkse Bossen, a former heathland area where Scots pines restrain the drifting sand. It is wonderful to travel for miles in this quiet area.
Schandelose Heath
You drive several kilometers through forest and stream valleys. At Grubbenvorst you will pass Huis De Steeg, a mansion from 1750. On the other side of the Maas, many beautiful kilometers await you through the forests of the Schandelose and Leeremarkse Heide.
