Get to know the romantic side of Venlo with this route. It doesn't matter whether you like nature or culture, you will find it both here. Knights in the Middle Ages already knew that it was a good place to be around Venlo. There is no region in the Netherlands with as many castles and castles as the area around Venlo, but the nature on this route is also worth seeing.
Admire centuries-old castles
If you choose this romantic and historic route, you start in the center of Baarlo. In the area surrounding this charming town you will find numerous castles, such as Kasteel d\\\'Erp and Château De Raay. In Tegelen you can take a look at Château Holtmühle and on the old Roman road to Venlo you will find De Berckt Castle from the 13th century. Admire this historic building and imagine yourself in times long gone.
Break at Birkenhof
But there is more to see in this region besides beautiful castles. How about romantic fens, lush forests, vast heathlands or the river landscape around the Maas? After cycling for about 16 kilometers you can stop at Birkenhof for a snack and a drink. Then you can continue your trip full of energy.

In the unique and picturesque monastery village of Steyl aan de Maas you will find several chapels and monasteries with beautiful gardens, such as the Good Shepherd Garden and the unique Jochumhof. The Jochumhof is a botanical garden in the middle of the village with a phenomenal view over the Maas. Halfway through this route you cycle through the beautiful landscape of Germany. The Nettetal with the Poelvenn See is absolutely worth it.
