Walking along the Meuse near Arcen

This route starts at De Maasparel - Hotel & Restaurant. On the edge of Arcen, you will see a monumental house from 1737 at De Schans 1. You will soon pass the Wymarsemolen, a corn mill from 1677. The watermill belonged to the nearby Kasteel Arcen, a country house whose origins date back to the twelfth century. You cross the Maas by ferry. From the footpath along the bank of the Maas, you have beautiful views over the water and Arcen opposite. For example, you can see the ruins of the Schanstoren, a fifteenth-century remnant of the former fortifications of Arcen. The tower was badly damaged during a siege in 1635, after which it was never restored to its original state.
