Description

Before you go to Steenwijk, you first walk over the Woldberg. On this moraine you will find beautiful beech forests and straight avenues. Some of the paths are paved with the rubble left over from the bombing of Rotterdam during World War II. Then you walk a bit through the Eeserveld nature reserve, what silence! Steenwijk is a former fortified town. It was located in a strategic location during the Eighty Years' War, which meant that Steenwijk was regularly fought over. Be surprised by the rich history: Steenwijk has more than 60 national monuments, including De Markt and the city canals. The fifteenth-century church tower is the oldest existing structure in Steenwijk. After your beautiful tour, you can relax in Huis ten Wolde.
