Valkenburg, Limburg, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 541545
Provided by: route.nl
The route takes you through hamlets such as Klimmen and Craubeek. Here you will see the characteristic farmhouses for which South Limburg is known. If you have the time, pay a visit to Hoensbroek Castle, one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. As early as around 1225, a motte stood on this site. Due to its strategic location on the trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen, and Cologne, this original castle developed into the largest fortress between the Meuse and the Rhine. Just past Hoensbroek, you drive onto the Brunssummerheide. Thanks to the elevation changes, you have beautiful panoramic views of heathland and forests here. With a bit of luck, you might hear the 'cowbells' ringing, a sign that the shepherd and his flock of sheep are nearby. Stop for a drink at Eetcafe De Pintelier in Voerendaal!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
