In the Brabantse Peel you can take a nice walk near the old village of Heusden. The route leads you through the varied nature reserve of the Witte Bergen.
Atmospheric Heusden
Heusden is located in the Peel, a former marshland on the border of Limburg and North Brabant. Now you walk through a landscape of agricultural lands, woods and stream valleys. What remains from the past is the wonderful peace that you find here. In Heusden you can admire the beautiful neo-Gothic village church from 1921. At Paulus eten en drinken you can go for a drink with fresh apple pie, a well-filled lunch or a dinner.
White Mountains
The forest around the Witte Bergen fishpond is located on the edge of the original Peel. This was once a vast sand drift, the name Witte Bergen still refers to this. Around 1925, production forests were planted here as part of job creation. It is wonderful to walk here between the fragrant conifers. On the bank of the pond you can look out over the rippling water at your leisure. The pond was created in the sixties, after sand had been excavated for the construction of a provincial road.
