Provided by: Plan Bier
In the border area of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and Belgium you can take a walk through the wide polders. You pass the Pereboomsgat and the Grote Kreek, two remnants of medieval floods.
Pear Tree Hole
The Pereboomsgat is a creek remnant that is located on the Belgian-Dutch border. You will find a relatively new, but no less beautiful nature reserve here. The creek arms have recently been restored. A dike was raised with the released soil. Along the banks you see flowery grasslands, swaying reed beds and shrubs. In this no man's land you still experience a deep silence. So it shouldn't be a problem at all to relax here.
Big Creek
Like the Pereboomsgat, the Grote Kreek was also used by the Spaniards during the Eighty Years' War as a transport artery to their fortresses. You will also find a rich flora and dikes lined with trees along the Grote Kreek. You walk around the creeks between fields and meadows. In some places you will of course see the well-known border posts. In the picturesque Belgian hamlets of Kruisstraat and Pereboom you pass some beautiful buildings that were built long ago. In short, you will not only find beautiful nature reserves on this route, but also cultural gems.
