Does walking sound like music to your ears? Then you are probably in for a walk through the Muziekbos. This nature reserve is located in the Maarkedal, a popular hiking area in the Flemish Ardennes.
Soon you walk into Louise-Marie, a hamlet founded in 1850 and named after the first Belgian queen. Here you will find, among other things, Onze-Lieve-Vrouw La Salette church from 1850. You reach the tower via a beautiful lime tree avenue. In the rural area you will pass two chapels. The Eight Chapels of Seven Woes are a remarkable gem. They were built in 1901 in gratitude for healing from a serious illness. Chapel Lorette was already built in 1676.
The Muziekbos is located on the flank of the 150 meter high Muziekberg. The'Muz\\\' in the word Muziekbos refers to the Celtic word for'swamp\\\'. You now walk through a quiet beech forest where many bluebells grow in the spring. At the highest point is the Geuzentoren, a mysterious round tower from 1864 that is made of iron sandstone. Around the tower is an open plain of heather and grassland. A poet who stood on the tower here in 1888 proclaimed the hilly region the Flemish Ardennes.
