Hiking route 541082
Provided by: Plan Bier
Does walking sound like music to your ears? Then you are ready for a walk through the Muziekbos. This nature reserve is located in the Maarkedal, a popular hiking area in the Flemish Ardennes.
Soon you will walk into Louise-Marie, a hamlet that was founded in 1850 and was named after the first Belgian queen. You will find here, among other things, Onze-Lieve-Vrouw La Salettekerk from 1850. You reach the tower via a beautiful linden avenue. In the rural area you will pass two chapels. The Eight Chapels of Seven Woes are a remarkable gem. They were built in 1901 in gratitude for healing from a serious illness. Chapel Lorette was already built in 1676.
The Muziekbos is located on the side of the 150 meter high Muziekberg. The'Muz\\\' in the word Muziekbos refers to the Celtic word for'swamp\\\'. You are now walking through a quiet beech forest where many bluebells grow in spring. At the highest point is the Geuzentoren, a mysterious round tower from 1864, built from ironstone. Around the tower is an open area of heath and grassland. A poet who stood on the tower here in 1888 proclaimed the hilly region the Flemish Ardennes.
